c2 battery hold down color

I purchased a battery hold down that is supposed to be correct for my 64 L75 without c60. The part I bought is a gold cad plated but I read in a restoration book it should be semi-gloss black. Which is correct?

Semigloss black (originally over bare steel, but a good paint joj will hide the cad.

Yes, black paint will hide the yellow chromate finish, but not for long. You will have to glass bead or somehow rough up the yellow chromate finish or the paint will jump off in about 6 months.

Paint will stick like glue even if you don't bead blast if you first prime with PPG DP epoxy primer.

You can get rid of the plating easily by soaking it in Eagle Brand Mag Wheel cleaner, etching formula. Pep boys, etc.

Thanks for the help. I don't have a bead blaster ( x-mass list?) but do have plenty of sandpaper and will try the DP primer. If I use the black I should have a good base for the semi gloss topcoat...
