On a coupe, does the harness /retractor mount on the side of the wheelhouse or on top. Mine are on the side with a molded cover over the retractor. I do not have the rear quarter panel extensions I see in various catalogues for 68-73. They look like they would cover the retractor if it was on top of the wheelhouse as they have a opening for the belt.

It sounds as if your retractors are mounted correctly. If they are in the way of the storage doors, they are correct. I think this is why they were moved for 1970. As far as I know, there are no correct reproductions of 1968-69 quarter trim panels. (There are some hard plastic ones, but the originals had a vinyl wrap over them.) The ones you are seeing in catalogs are probably for 1970-73 which did have the retractors on top of the wheel housing. The panels for 1968-69 did not have the cover or cutout for the belt retractor.
