I have a 1971 convertible BB with automatic transmission. The car was made in june of 71. I only have the fiber optics on the front of my console and not on the rear. In the corvette fact book the pictures show fiber optics lights on the front and rear of the console. I know in 72 they dis-continued the fiber optics. The car is all original except for the paint. Why do I have the fiber optics just on the front?
Thomas, I too have a very late built '71, in fact it may have been on one of the last build days of '71. My serial is 21701 of 21801, with a built date of July 17, 1971. I have both front and rear working Fiber optics on my car.
Hi Thomas,
I had a 71 also with the optics, the rear were located in the lower portion of the console shift plate. If there are no holes there you might want to lift it up to see if the cables are present. Could be some one changed to a later shift plate. You can also see if they are present on the rear brakelights or license light housings.

More than likely the shift consol plate has been changed, to a later '72 to '76 unit, more than likely the "optics" cables are down under the center console.
