Well, I'm still using the old computer and it's still functioning ok as far as posting is concerned. I can't send any e-mail, though. I did some work in the garage today involving some plumbing I needed to get done. Then, when I finish that project tomorrow, I can get to work on and finish the "ZL-1" (it's 65% complete now, anyway). I don't need to get it in the car, just finish the engine and I'll have "complied with the terms of the agreement" and be ok to set up the new computer.
By the way, I would like a copy of the reference publication that you mentioned if you can find it. I'll be glad to pay to have it copied. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe: Did you have any problems with your computer prior to the problem you are having with not being able to send emails? Have you checked the settings for your email account, in particular for the setting for outgoing mail? It is possible that your setting for outgoing mail is corrupted/incorrect. Just a thought FIW. Yes, there have been other problems. In fact, all sorts of "quirks" seem to have developed "gradually". For one thing, I haven't been able to use Adobe Acrobat or call up any files or web pages that are PDF. Several weeks ago, I could no longer send e-mails from my @yahoo address. I think that this should be unaffected by my own e-mail settings.
Also, the graphics and pictures on my Comcast home page "disappeared" several weeks ago, too. A line appeared that said I needed to install Macromedia Flash. When I tried to install it, I got a message saying that I couldn't. My home page was still usable, though. I could only send e-mail, though, by using the "toolbar" that was vertical on the left side of the page; the e-mail ntoification and top "tool bar" had disappeared. Then, a few days ago, the vertical "tool bar" disappeared.
Also, I can't launch my Norton Anti-Virus from the icon on my desk top.
I think that I may have deleted some critical files or "drivers" several weeks ago when I thought that I had contracted a virus. That's when all this trouble began. However, it's not worth messing with. I've needed to get a new computer for a long time and this thing finally spurred me to do it. My Windows NT operating system has been in BIG, BIG PIA since the day I got it and soon I'll be RID OF IT. Hooray! In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Go to http://www.webroot.com/services/spyaudit_03.htm and download their Spyaudit program. Run it and it will tell you what spyware software is running on your system.

Joe - this sounds like one of the beagle worms out there....one hit my office system at IBM and had the same symptoms. Go to:
Adaware free antivirus protection safeguards your computer from online threats, so you can focus on the things that really matter to you, We’ve got you covered.
This site is used at IBM to clear up our systems of exactly what you describle by our deskside support team. I brought mine back to good health....Craig- Top
