While it may be considered a "fine point", radios were NEVER "DELETED" from 1956-1978 Corvettes. Radios were an optional item. If you didn't order one and pay for one, you didn't get one. So, in the strictest sense, the term "radio delete" is like saying "power steering delete" or "power brake delete" or, even, "side exhaust delete".
In 1979 a radio became standard equipment in Corvettes. However, for 1979 it was not possible to "delete" the radio. Beginning in 1980, I believe due to FTC regulations, a true "radio delete" option became available which provided a credit aginst the total price of the particular car.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
