    Original Spare Storage

Does anyone have an opinion as to the best way to store an original spare tire(26 years old)? I`m thinking of maybe putting it in a large dark green garbage bag and lay it in a corner of our cellar. Also, would you do any cleaning of the tire at all or just put it away as is with the surface dust, grime, etc? Thanks.

I would clean it with soap and water only. Don't use any aggressive cleaning methods like a scrub brush etc. Wipe it dry and store it in a plastic bag in a cool dry place.

Rubber's biggest enemies are ozone and UV light. As recommended, clean it with soap and water, place it in a garbage bag and store it in a cool place away from electrical appliances and light.

I have some 35+ year old Goodyear racing tires that I keep in a tire rack in my garage under the house. They still have the stickers and show no signs of cracking or other degradation.
