Anyone have any hints or suggestions on a 1969 speedometer removal and repair?

(1) Follow directions given in the Chassis Service Manual when pulling the instrument cluster to access speedo/tach. The dash harness is clipped to rear of the cluster and if you blindly begin to pull things apart without knowing the steps to follow, there's a finite chance you'll SAW through the wiring harness causing a REAL MESS.
(2) Once the speedo/tach is out of the car, remember there were 100's of independent AC-Delco/United Delco dealers coast to coast. MANY of them are still in business today and have the factory equipment to repair, test, and calibrate speedo/tach components.
(3) Here in Denver, our local AC-Delco dealer who's a qualified speedo and radio shop, gets about $50 (plus parts) to turn a speedo or tach and does so in roughly 2-3 days when you carry it in. By appointment, he'll also do the instrument R&R for you if you're squeamish about dropping the steering column and pulling the instrument cluster.
(4) What these shops won't do is cosmetic refurb (re-silkscreen the face plate, Etc.) and for that kind of full restoration service you'll have to go to a 'boutique' Corvette instrument shop. Many advertize in the Services section of Driveline magazine plus you'll find DB comments in the archieves as this subject has come up quite a few times before.
