C2 Grill Fit

I'm fitting my new NOS grill in to the grill opening and find a 1/4 to 3/8 in. gap between the top and bottom fiberglass tabs to which the grill fastens. Granted, I had to do a little body work and build up the tabs as the top tab was missing and the bottom was partially damaged. The sides fit fairly well, it's just that the grill opening apears to be too wide. Any way to cheat here to get the proper fit without the use of spacer s or space washers?

You didn't mention the year and there are some differences. But is it possible that the bottom fiberglass is sagging?

66 convertible. Doesn't appear to be sagging.

Dave,

The fit of the grill at the center tabs is one of the hardest to obtain after any fiberglass repair or replacement has been made. It's the first thing to look at to determine if a car has ever been damaged in the front. If the gap is between the vertical distance there's not much you can do other than insert spacers. If the grill needs to be moved rearward to fit, try attaching it at the center tabs before mounting it to the side brackets at the inner fender. There is some play there.
