Has anyone ever heard of JT/JP Piper for Corvette restoration.I was referred to them by Corvette America.I spoke with them & they seem very knowledgeable & very nice to deal with.In all my inquiries into restoration for seats for my 58 their name hasen't been mentioned.I think they are in Illinois,if anyone has any info could you let me know ?
Thanks in advance,
Deb
JT Piper has been around for a long time. they are famous for having rare parts. their prices are rather salty. they have a division that specializes in reuilding/supplying 4 speeds and differentials. i wasn't aware they did general restorations. get price in writing before sending items for restoration then shop around. mike.
I assume you're looking for someone to restore a pair of driver seats so you can put your originals in storage.
I'd call Al Knock for a quote while your at it. Al has a pretty solid reputation in this hobby.
You might also give John Kennedy a call @ 801-295-7870. He may be able to help you out himself. If not, as our National Judging Team Team Leader for Interiors, he will know a trustworthy soul who can.
I had the pleasure of acting as an OJ on John's team at the Rocky Mountain Regional this year. He is a very nice fella.
Ol' J.T. is located in Vermillion, IL. It's a tiny little farm town on the Illinois-Indiana Border. Mainly, J.T.'s is a Corvette salvage yard and that's how he got started. However, he's also accumulated a huge amount of NOS Corvette parts over the years. Many years ago I stopped by there when I was in the midwest for Bloomington (1987 or 88, I think). I was allowed a "self-guided" tour of their warehouses and I've never forgotten the trust that they placed in me by allowing me to do that. I can tell you that I was like a "kid in a candy store". They have, or, at least at that time had, a huge stock of NOS items. Absolutely HUGE! You name it, they probably have it or had it.
Now, one of the reasons that they have all this stuff is that they don't let it get away cheaply. But, with rare items I don't really see anything wrong with that. That's how ALL rare stuff is; from Picaso paintings to Bugatti Royales.
If you need something that you can't find anywhere else, Ol' J.T. is a good place to call. Just make sure that you're sitting down when it comes to price. However, look at it this way: if it weren't for the price, the chances are that somebody would have bought that part long before you called and then it wouldn't be there for you!

Thanks everyone for you speedy & thoughtful replies.I spoke to James Piper & I was impressed, what a nice guy.His price for the seats I was looking for were cheaper than other places. I was more concerned about the authenticity of the frames. Thanks to Pete, for posting the following information on this board.
