    Shock Part # Help Please - Joe?

    I incorrectly listed a shock code in a post below (I listed CN and the actual code is CK). Here are the Delco shock part numbers;

    (front shocks) # on shock = 4984577, # on box = 3196957, sticker = CK.

    (rear shocks) # on shock = 4940607, # on box = 508-33, no sticker (these look like F41 rears).

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Everett----

    Shock GM #3196957 (#4984577 on shock) are SERVICE replacement F-40/F-41/FE-7 front shocks.

    Shock GM #4940607 on the shock are SERVICE replacement F-40/F-41/FE-7 rear shocks. They're on-box GM part number should be GM #4940459. I've never seen a Delco part number on theses shocks, but the ones you have apparently have one. So, at some point these must have been available through the Delco parts system.

    The GM #3196957 are discontinued as-of about 2 years ago. The GM #4940459 are still available unless they've been very recently discontinued. However, while the latest "edition" of these shocks are configured just like the earlier "edition". they have no Delco markings, at all, on the shock's lower tube. I expect this means that someone other than Delco Chassis Division of DELPHI is making them.

    In addition to their SERVICE use, these shocks may have been used in PRODUCTION, too, for later C3s with FE-7.

    Both of the above-referenced shocks have a larger tube diameter than standard suspension shocks. However, it's not the same as the tube diameter used for 63-69 HD suspension shocks. The 63-69 had a larger tube diameter. After about late 1969, the HD suspension shocks changed to the diameter seen in the shocks you have.

      Thanks for the info Joe. As stated, these shocks are indeed marked with the part numbers, and Julian dates (1975 and 1976). Maybe the semi-early dates (as opposed to recent service dates) explains why the shocks are marked with the part numbers. They are marked Delco Pliacell as well, along with the arrow showing BOTTOM, as originals were marked.
