I'm in the process of going completely through the soft top on my '59. Does anyone know what is used to hold the tack strips in? Is it contact cement? Also, were the tack strips put in place before or after painting at the factory? Thanks in advance!
My experience is only on reproduction top frames. The tack strips are epoxied in or glued in some how. Reproduction tack strips are avaliable if you need them. They are very hard plastic/rubber and hold staples well. Staples are what most people use even Al Knoch. I can give addition info if desired.

I have just replaced my top on my 61 and the strips are a very tight fit. When i removed them i didn"t notice any glue I beleave they are a press fit. You may have to shave the replacements down a little and work them in. this may take a wile. If you look at the replacements you will notice that they have a beveled edge. Good luck.
