    Stripped manifold/carb stud.

I spent the afternoon putting together the detail items on my 64 L76 327/365 Aluminum/Hooley set up. When I went to tighten the carb down, one of the studs would not pull any torque. HELP!

    1. Can I helicoil the stud and how do you do one proper, I have never used a helicoil.

    2. What is the proper torque for the studs/bolts?

    Thanks for your help...

When you buy a helicoil the first time, usually you buy a kit which comes with instructions. Basically it involves drilling the hole out a little larger to accomodate the helicoil (the proper size drill bit is usually marked on the helicoil container from what I can recall, it's been awhile), then inserting the helicoil with a tool (provided in the kit). The final step is cutting part of the helicoil off (the part the tool uses to screw it in). It's pretty easy and it helps to have a drill press. Good luck!

      Easy As Pie!

Just buy a helicoil kit and use a hand drill. No need to remove the manifold. After seating the coil you break off the tang on the bottom of the insert. Gives an un-noticable repair that's stronger than the original threads.
