Would be for a '62-340 4 speed. After a chat with John Pirkle Sr., I'm getting the impression these are hard to find (understatement????). The current incorrect starter I have is on its way out and I figure it's time to step up to a correct one. Are there any rules on the lead time for date stamps on starters- the car's born-on date is approximately 3/1/62. Does anyone have any leads/suggestions? Thanks!

Rob--
best date for 62 starter (I've found about 10 on cars in the last 30 years) plus another 15 or so in my files--2 weeks to 4 weeks would be the best dating--as Mike M says, 6 months is acceptable according to the JM, but isn't best for reality.

Rob - These starters are harder to find than your original engine. Col. Pirkle does find them from time to time. He has done a remarkable job for my needs over the years. On the other hand, there is a vendor out there that offers these starters with whatever number or date you want. He's able to do this because he turns downs the numbers on an original case and then stamps whatever you want. Your birthdate, Social Security Number or that of your kids or grandkids. The price is lower, as you might guess. It's just one of many choices you gotta make while restoring your car. I won't, at this moment, comment beyond that. Best, Dennis- Top
