    Primer/Sealer

I was wondering if anyone has used a product called "all you need". A guy at my local paint shop is trying to convince me to use it instead of epoxy primer. I used epoxy over the glass on my last vette with good results, but this "all you need" stuff is supposed to be more like gel coat. It mixes with fiberglass resin hardner.
    Thanks!

    Re: Primer/Sealer

It is a sprayable polyester filler made by Clausen, they have a couple of choices. They build at about .008 per pass with up to five coats for a total build of about .040 depending on how you spray. I have been told if you let that dry a day and block it you can do the same again. If however you try to build too much in the first place you can get cracking. So 4-5 coats at one time only.

It has a different purpose than epoxy, plus their intention with that product is that you can go right to your base or top coat over it. I would be more inclinded to use it to be blocked then go to 2k or epoxy after that depending on your belief system. Most people here seem to want to leave the ripples in their cars, if you want to straighten that would be part of your motivation in using a polyester primer, it is higher build than other primers.

As far as it being the same as gel coat it is a polyester based product with talc and stuff in it. I have read tons of statements that it is the same as gel coat etc etc, still haven't heard any statements that clearly define how they are different.

WIth polyester primers there are many brands to choose from, Evercoat, Standox, some of them are made by Evercoat and sold under other brand names, SHerwin Wiliams used to be made by Evercoat and still may be.

I know one guy right now using lesser Clausen Polyester think is called Rust Defender on a 250k car for Cobal Hall, he has used it on many other high end cars and his work is stunning and still looks that way many years later.

If you use this product, which I know nothing about, and DuPont, Sikkens, PPG, etc paint and have a problem, who do you call? You are much better staying with as system, as has been discussed many times on this board, than you are jumping around with suppliers.
