    C2 Gas leak?

I am seeing a gas/oil leak on my intake and was wondering if it was possibly a PCV problem. I have just replaced the carb base gasket. I removed the PCV and it seems to rattle just fine. I cleaned it out with gum-out but I am still seeing the same problem. Any ideas?

I have attached a picture to give you an idea on the location. I suspect PCV since it is showing up just below where the PCV vents to the carb base.

Many thanks for any feedback and everyone have a great Thanksgiving with Family and Friends.

    Mike

      Brian,

Yes, it is a Holley 3810, correct for the L79. I'll be happy to e-mail you the pic if you like.

      Thanks,

      Mike

Sounds like leaky holley syndrome. Could be bad metering block or bowl gaskets, warped main body, or warped metering blocks. Whatever you do, don't tighten the heck out of the bowl screws!

It is an oil/gas mixture and I can't see where it is coming from except it seems to be running down the intake runner and collecting where the intake bolt is, right below the PCV hose.

Mike, It sounds like the same condition as my 327/300,Hog-ley 3810. It's a wetness at the junction of the intake and head in the area to the left and right of the manifold-mounted choke coil (center of the manifold on the right side). Check the torque of your intake bolts. I find that when engine is cold (choke closed) you will get some weep thru of raw fuel in that area if the intake bolts are not tight. It is not coming from the carb.

              Mike,

I think it is one of two things or a combination of both.

              1) If it was just oil I would guess it is wicking up the intake manifold bolt at the location. If it were oil from the PVC connection you would notice oil on the bottom side of the hose/carb fitting connection.

              2) If it was just gas I would guess it is an issue with the secondary metering plate. What happens is it becomes warped or the screws become lose or the gasket fails or the main body is warped and the fuel weeps onto the secondary butterflies then follows the secondary throttle shaft to its end and drips into the designated area. This usually after the car has cooled down after a drive.
