    '66 L-72 Heater Hoses

    Hello Everyone:

What is the general consensus with regard to the "correct" heater hoses for the L-72.

I've ordered the new '66 judging manual but have not rec'd it yet, but I've been told there still may be some confusion on what is correct.

Your help is appriciated and as usual, thank you for the help.

    Kurt

    Kurt,

I don't know if there will ever be a final solution to this one because there are so few original cars today with original hoses still in place. This I can tell you though. At about the end of the 65 model year, the hoses went through a change and 66-67 seem to be quite different. The order of logo/ribs was reversed starting around that time. The 66-67 mix had the GM logo on the smaller 5/8" hose and the 3/4" hose was grooved. The style of the characters changed to block letters in what I would call a very light grey or silver, almost white as compared to the flat orange color that was used in 63-65.

I've documented these hoses and logos on many original low mileage cars starting in the mid 70's so most still had their original hoses in place. Also, in the mid 70's, I ordered a few (still available at the time) complete heater installation kits from GM for 66-67 and the kits included the correct hoses. All had 5/8" with logo only, and 3/4" with grooves only. I believe there were four thin grooves but I'm not certain of the count. The grooves were thin, not wide like the last hose that was available from GM in the 70's and later. I have accurate drawings of the different styles of characters but, unfortunately, there not here in Florida, and I don't know the proper name of the letter style.
