71 currently has Firestone Firehawk 225-70R15. Considering purhase of Coker Firestone Wide Oval F70-15.Confused about point deductions for these tires.Will Coker receive 10% deduction from 30 originality pts vs. 60% deduction on Firehawks? Deduction %'s seem to differ from Judging Reference Manual to Tech Info Manual. Thanks in advance

Re: 71 Tire Judging
As I read the "white book", the Coker wide oval repros will get either a 20% or 30% deduction, depending on how closely they match the originals in terms of design, construction, tread width and pattern, and sidewall appearance. To get only a 10% deduction, they have to be EXACTLY the same as the originals except for the DOT markings.- Top

I believe the introduction of the Goodyear a few years ago moved the bar in terms of "acceptable" reproductionBill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 71 Tire Judging
A couple of years ago Kelsey made a few changes to their very good reproduction Goodyear and now makes it "right on". They are the best you can get. I know it is made in Raised White Letter but I'm not sure about white stripe. As mentioned the Firestone reproduction is not very close.- Top

Try this;
Buy some nice steel belted radials - get five of them, unless you have an original, drive to the meet, you will probably break even on the point deduction, 30 points, and enjoy the thrill of driving a great car. Thats what I do when I have my car judged. Cheaper in the long run than buying poor handling bias tires.
