My understanding on the C1 steering wheels are as follows: Originals had "shallow" circular grooves, GM re-issues didn't have grooves they had brushed lines that ran the length of the spokes, and the repros have deeper circular grooves than the originals. I can send you a pic of an original and a re-issue if that would help. I used to have a repro but it's on a car I sold.

Re: C1 Steering Wheel
MY TWO REPO ARE VERY SHALLOW , BUT HAVE OTHER SIGNS THAT MAKE THEM VISABLE AS REPO. MY FRIENDS ORGINALS HAVE DEEPER GROOVES THAN MY TWO REPO. HE HAS BLK, RED TOURQUISE AND FAWN BEIGE ALL ABOUT THE SAME AS MY WHEEL. MAYBE IN WASHINGTON THEY HAD A LOT OF REISSUES BUT I WOULD THINK THAT IS UNLIKELY-DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE INPUT- Top

Re: C1 Steering Wheel
That's interesting, because the black repro I purchase from corvette central definitely had deeper grooves than my '58s steering wheel. The '58s wheel is charcoal which so far has to my knowledge has not been reproduced. All of the colors you mentioned are reproduced. The GM re-issues didn't have the circular pattern at all. The "brushed" lines run the same direction as the spokes.
Is the wheel's plastic surface smooth or does it have grain in it? What are the "other signs" that are leading you to the reproduction call? (PS. You may want to drop the all caps. In computer land it looks like you're yelling)- Top

Re: C1 Steering Wheel
I THINK IT IS AN ORGINAL OR AT LEAST A GM ISSUE. THE SURFDACE WAS SMOOTH BEFORE I TEXTURED IT USING RESTORER MAG ARTICLE) BUT I SOLD IT AND THE BUYER SAYS ITS A REPO. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MYSELF.- Top
