    Reproduction Bias Tires

I was reading an old thread from Jan. 2004 started by Jace Holt. The Goodyear was mentioned as was the BF Goodgich by Coker. I have heard in the past about Coker tires being hard to balance or out of round and flat spots. Are these problems still in existance?? What is better 2-Ply Nylon or 4-Ply Polyester? I only want to use these for judging purposes and mayby only a few times a year. What about the Firestone by Coker? Is the +$200 for the Goodyears worth it?
Jace Holt...What did you finally get for the '67?
    Any help/opinions/experiences are most appreciated...Thank You..Don Z. 30928

I think that for judging, if you want the minimum point deduction, if any, you should go with the Goodyears. With the exception of the DOT they are pretty much dead on correct

Hi Mike, On my 63 I have Firestone deluxe champions repros.also have a set of original 670-15 Firestone 500 nylon with one inch white wall, would I lose points putting them on, in the judging manual on page 76 states only blackwall had the the option P91 where the P92 Firestone 500 were they white walls and also does the tire have to say "rayon" on them. danny: my 63-4 judging manual is a spring of 98 second edition, second printing critter and it doesn't specifically rule out whitewall on the P91 optioned tires BUT i'd check with the team leader, carlton peckerhead cloclough, page 3 of restorer magazine for his phone #. he favors being addressed as peckerhead and tell him i put you on to him. seriously, if you must go with the repos and i suspect you will, simply buff the DOT off with progressivly finer sandpaper then wipe them down with laquer thinner then armour all or similar products. judges will have to stand on their heads with magnification to spot the lost dot markings. mike

            Danny:
Are your Firestone Delux Champions Reproduction? How do they ride? Are they Coker? I know they won't be as good as radials, but I would only put the bias on when I go for judging. How far are they off the Goodyears for judging purposes? Don Z.

yes but i have heard the judges are

using magnification these days or is it because they are getting so old they need it?

H..l, we are getting so old we cannot remember what we bought the magnifying scopes for. We have a severe case of NCRS (Never Can Remember Squat) disease. I think that the Doc was trying to get the medical people to name it McCagh's Syndrome, or was that Dipstick Syndrome. I can't remember.

                      What were we talking about????

Hi Don, The Firestone are repros. there cokers they ride not to bad, for judging, the Firestone Champions and the goodyears they look the same as the original ecept there about 1" taller then the original and have the DOT on them and both Firestone & Goodyears will never fit the spare tire carrier.

Thanks Danny: I have a 775 x 15 Firestone in the spare carrier now and it seems to fit ok, and it closes ok but I did change the tub itself and used the original lid. I have never had it on the road so I don't know how it rides.
