1954 gas tank markings

I just pulled the gas tank out of my 54, #3184 and there is a red 47 marked on the tank basically right behind the driver. Any idea what this means?

Hi Bill,

That's very likely the build number to match all the parts to the right car (e.g. doors, deck lid, hood, etc.)

Inspection stamp or mark , had some thing like it on my 55.
