Jim back in 1973 I took my 70 Corvette to the largest Chevrolet dealer in Dallas,TX for warranty repair work on what sounded to me like a bad right wheel bearing. Got my car back and under warranty they had replaced the wheel bearings in both rear wheels. Both rear wheels no longer had any rivets holding the disc to the spindle. Driving with the windows down I could hear a faint clicking noise, it would stop if the brakes were applied. I only wish I knew then what I learned through years of driving experience with the problem created by the professional mechanics at this modern Chevrolet dearlership in Dallas,TX. The facts are available to anyone now with all the information that has been written about 65-82 Corvettes and the air pumping effect of the caliper pistons. I have experienced the air pumping with my original owner 70, but have never experienced it with my original owner 68. The difference is that the 68 still has its rear discs riveted to the spindle. I am the only person that has serviced the wheel bearings with Kent Moore tools on the 68 after the experience of my 70. I tried having the rear discs trued on my 70 when I removed the wheels and observed the discs moving the pistons. Waste of money and time. Around town, at slow speeds could go for longer periods of not having to bleed air from the rear calipers, but interstate driving caused rapid air pumping. I fixed my problem by sending my spindles and discs to Bair's and getting the rivets and truing the assembled system. I have driven the interstates with no problems after reassembly. Corvettes that are not driven will be just fine sitting in the garage. I am not saying you will have a problem in just removing the rivets to service the emergency brake system, especially if you mark the disc and spindle and assemble it in the same position. I do know that my problem with my 70 was separation of the disc and spindle procedure used in 1973 and the five lug nuts holding the assembly together would not cure the problem.
