    GM Master parts catalog

Does anyone know where you could get a GM master parts catalog? For at least up to year '67.

ebay is probably the best source. If you look under "corvette" for 53-73, etc., they show up pretty regularly. I haven't seen a 67, 68, or 69 in quite a while, but those from 73 to 75 show up pretty regularly. Someone more knowledgeable than I am can tell you when the break took place. Sometime after 62 they separated the Chevrolet car parts from Corvette. By 69 the Corvette book was separate.

I do have a Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog that is 1938 to 1969 it has passenger cars and Corvettes. It also includes trucks. It was printed Oct 1 1968 and is 2326 pages in length. I don't know if there was a separate Corvette only catalog for 1969. I do know that Corvairs, Chevelles, Camaros and Chevy II (Nova) had their own 1960 thu 1969 catalog, all in 1. I have one dated Feb 15, 1969. I am sure there are others with different dates out there. Just my experience. GL

        mike and Jeremy-----

The first Corvette-only parts catalog was published about 1954 or 55. After 1955, however, the Corvette P&A Catalog was combined with the passenger car and light truck P&A Catalog. It remained that way until October, 1969. At that time, the Corvette parts catalog was "disengaged" from the passenger car and light truck catalog and became a stand-alone catalog for Corvettes only. It was updated several times per model year and was "cumulative" for 1953 to the publishment date. The last edition of the 53-82 Corvette parts cataolg was released in December, 1983. After that, the 53-82 Corvette parts catalog became "inactive", although printed copies of it were available from GM through 1993. Some of these copies are still around and come up fairly often on eBay. Keep in mind, though, that the last edition was printed more than 20 years ago, now. The vast majority of the parts in it are now discontinued or, at least, superceded and that's the LATEST issue catalog available. The same is true for earlier editions of the Corvette parts catalogs. In fact, even more of those parts are discontinued and superceded.

If you're interested in a catalog for the purpose of ordering parts by part number, any of the printed catalogs will be practically useless to you. For historical reference, they have great value. Getting the most out of the information contained in these catalogs and interpretting the information is not as simple as it seems. It's taken me about 30 years of study and all that I've learned is how much I don't know about it!

Also, for those interested, the passenger car and light truck P&A Catalog continued on after October, 1969 with the Corvette omitted from it. "Passenger car" does not include Camaro, Chevelle, and Chevy II, though. They had their own seperate catalog. At least, they did until the mid 70s. Then, they were combined with passenger car and trucks were placed in a seperate catalog.

It can be a complicated and confusing world, this world of GM parts!

          Joe:

GM did publish a 1953 Corvette only catalog, in adition to one in 1954, and one covering 1953,1954 and 1955, in 1955. GM also, later on, published a manual for using these catalogs.

I have a 73 Corvette parts catalog. For me one of the nicest things in having it is the illustrations. They are nice and clear and make a great supplement to the assembly manual (whose illustrations are terrible) and the service manual. They can be found on ebay quite regularly.
