My headlight warning lamp is on when I turn on my headlights. The lights are fully open. The wiring is new throughout the car. How does the sensor/switch work? Any troubleshooting advice?

Re: '69 Headlight Warning Light
It's either the headlight bucket not really being fully extended (it only takes a degree or two) or the switches are missing/maladjusted. Look from underneath the car directly at the actuator linkage and mechanism. You'll see the switch wiring and hopefully the switch itself. There's one per headlight. Adjust so that the switch contacts open just as the headlight fully extends.

Re: '69 Headlight Warning Light
Be careful the the headlights on and up sensor it can be broken easily. I broke one of my original installed ones and tried JB Weld to repair it 15-16 years ago, it is still operational. If you have a headlight slow to come up sometimes it will not get to a fully up position to operate the switch. It does not take much movement of the switch contact to turn off the light on the guage panel. A quick test is to gently pull up on a raised headlight and see if the dash guage panel light goes out. I don't know if the switches are available from GM anymore, they are available from the Corvette part venders.- Top
