    55 tranny

Last may I was advised by Kevin Riel of this board that my tranny problem was probably a worn or broken governor gear. He said that FASTCO has new NOS gears. I am now going back to Florida(snowbird) where the 55 lives and am looking to get in tough with FASTCO. I am unable to find them on the internet. Does anyone know about the FASTCO that has original NOS 55 tranny gears and how to get in touch with them?? The only FASTCO i can find has fasteners.

Nearly any cast iron governor gear (year)will work for your 55. 55 had a brass gear some later years used a plastic gear.If you cant find a used governor or gear e-mail me and I'll send you one. Is your problem that it wont shift in to second ?

Roy-Yes I cannot get it out of first gear. I also have to find a person in Fort Myers ,Florida capable of repairing the power glide tranny.

If it is the Governor that is bad , it's a vary simple thing to replace. If you have some one put the Vett up on a hoist the four bolt cover is on the R/side rear and would take may be ten minutes to do. You lose next to no fluid removing the cover, then just pull the Governor out and replace . You should also be able to use the same gasket or use a liquids sealer replacing the cover.Any one having a 7/16 wrench could do it.
When you pull the Governor out and brass gear is worn , that was your problem ( don't worry about the inner drive gear) it will be OK ( it's steel) this just happens once in a while.
          Good luck!

It's FATSCO. You have misspelled the name. Chuck
