rubber . originals had a small(approx 1/2" square) tab that projected front and rear in horizontal plane. embossed on the tab was the GM logo in very small script.they are scarce and can be found in very old nos intake gasket sets. most generic intake gasket sets will have rubber front and rear seals but they'll lack the tab with GM. mike
