Union 76 Superstock 114 - Blending Chart?

Just nabbed (at about $4.50/gal) a 55 gallon drum of Union 76 Superstock 114 octane go-juice for my 66 427/390 and 69 350/350. Is there a blending chart available online for mixing 92 unleaded and this stuff to guestimate approximate octane ratios?? Looking fwd to "the smell of octane in the morning"...

I see 76 has one on their site, but it's only for their 100 octane fuel.

For all practical purposes, there's a simple formula for blending different octane gasolines. The octane of the final mixture will be the WEIGHTED AVERAGE (by volume) of the octane ratings of the 2 gasolines blended.

For example, if you were to mix equal volumes of 114 octane gasoline 92 octane gasoline, you will end up with 103 octane gasoline. You could figure other concentrations thusly:

(percent gasoline "X") X (octane "X")+ (percent gasoline "Y") X (octane "Y")= octane of final mixture.

This same system is actually used to achieve various octane ratings when gasolines are manufactured and distributed. For example, Sunoco sells several octane ratings. However, they only have 2 different octanes "in the ground" at the stations. These are automatically blended to produce the octane selected.

Just so you know, that fuel is fairly old. They haven't made it for at least a year and a half, possibly longer. If it was stored carefully, it should be ok...

Yup. The guy I got it from bought it in summer of '02. It is sealed in the factory 55 gal drum, stored off of the concrete on 2x4 blocks. Should be good...

be careful with racing gas or any gasoline

a racer i know was transferring racing gas from a 55 gal drum into smaller 5 gal containers that he would take to the track. he had his garage door open and the wind was blowing into the garage. the door between the garage and the basement was close but his wife was ironing clothes next to the gas fired hot water tank. the gasoline fumes got thru to the basement most likely under the door because gasoline fumes are heavy and when the water heater came on there was a fireball that burned his wife so badly she died several days later.
