It will not fall off. It will not even loosen up if it is tight enough.

Tight enought does seem to be a common element, Instructions say 7 hard wacks with the lead hammer, Guess my choices are to replace them with the bolt ons or ensure they are tight ever time I go drive just in case.

clean threads of spinner and adaptor with ether or laquer thinner and DO NOT lubricate the threads. buy a 3# maul with leather cups on ends. tighten spinner still snug, leave car down on groung then slam away.and i mmean slam the spinner tips. i lost a spinner on I95 near Jacksonville on out first trip to Cypress Gardesn, believe it was '82. i'd wire brushed then Never-seized the adaptor thread before we left for Cyprus. i believe lubrication and inadequate slamming atribute to loose spinners. since that freightening loss of spinner on I95, i've never lost another spinner on any of our numerous K/O equipped midyears when i've cleaned any lubricants off threads beforehand. good luck with yours. mike

        You have another choice,

sell your old used knock-offs to me. If the pin drive holes are still round and tight in the wheels, I'll give good money for same and accept all the responsibility for them coming off on my car.

            Re: You have another choice,

Mike, I use Never Seize on the threads and the cone and have never had a problem, but I am leary of anything but the lead hammer. I dont think that you get as much on them with other devices. A note: at those torques the cones tend to score. Thats why I like the Never Seize. Also I think that you can get more torque on the nuts with some lube. The fact is that if you have the nut tight, they aint comming off, lubed or not.

              Mike:

My comment about choices were directed to Jim.

Agree with Wayne. Clean threads and lube the spinner/cone surface.

                Re: You have another choice,

I use Locktite 592 (pn59241) that appears to work very well and you can take the wheel off again. I mark the cone and spinner with a small yellow line (china-marker) and check for position each time I'm about to drive away.

Have a real fear about a KO coming off, since many of my friends had that happen to them in the 60's with damage to rear glass resulting. I first used the red Locktite, but then wanted to take the wheels off - Locktite told me "good luck" However I was able to take emblem off spinner and heat threads and did get them off, Oh I had only used enough red locktite to fill a few spots here and there and that was still a lot of heat and banging to get them off.
Locktite 592 was recommended by Locktite and it appears OK.
