    C1 door looks won't fit!

When I attempted to install the re-production door locks on my 60 I found that they were not the same as originals. They are from CC and there is NO way they will fit without modification. The space between the tabs and the bezel is not large enough for the backing retainerr to fit. I believe the lock they sold me would work just fine on a steel bodied car. The differance in thickness between sheet metal and the fiberglass is the problem. I ground the tabs away on the locks enough so that I could force the backing retainers in place.
I can't believe everybody that has bought these doesn't have the same problem.

    Larry,
As far as I know, all the current locks available have this same problem. I try and buy original locks and rework them whenever possible. It is not just Corvette Central. The repro locks are also easily identified by a knowledgable judge, since the appearance of the bezel is different. The originals had a distinct double ring around the bezel, while the repro ones have a single ring.
You can uncrimp the original bezels and install them on the the new locks with a little effort, but it is easier to use original locks if possible.

        John,
Are the bezels the same for 58 thru 62 ? My 61 has the original locks with the correct key number stamping but the bezel lacks the raised circular ring. My outer bezel is flat. Is it possible that 61/62 were different ?

          Larry,

I had the same problem with the repo lock set from CC. I managed to get the door locks in, but used my original lock plates inside the door. The ones sent with the kit wouldn't work. My trunk lock was a different story. Ended up putting the original back in place. Since my car is in cold storage, will work on solving that problem in the spring. Seems I read on the board way back that if you don't use the rubber gaskets, they will fit. Not a good idea for a car that will be judged.

            David,
You simply can not get the retainer plates in place with the gaskets. There is a logical explanation for this, they did not put gaskets in from the factory! LOL
This is one of theose things that have been added to the body gasket kits for absolutely no reason at all. The only correct way for judging is sans gaskets.

              Dave,
I do not know 61-62 cars very well, but I have been told that the flat faced locks are all service replacements.

                John,

Thanks for the explanation. This jogs my memory of the previous post I mentioned.
I did not use the gaskets when I installed the locks. Now I know why. Getting old, memory not as sharp. I'll print this thread for further reference.

61-62 door locks are DEFINITELY different than 60 and earlier--they are without that extra ring!!!!!!!!!!!
