    early 63 FI Info Needed

I'm trying to get a better idea of a point in early 63 production when several items on the FI engine changed. More specifically, the plating on several items that changed from painted or cad to chrome and, most importantly, the clip that holds the vacuum advance line at the rear FI plenum bolt. The original design being a wire retainer and the later design a flat metal clip. I have a scan of the wire style retainer and can post if necessary.

So far, I have well documented all early items on cars up to ser #32xx and all late items on cars in the low 6000 range.

    Choke tube plain early........chrome late.

Fuel lines and fittings cad...........chrome late.

    Fuel filter bracket cad/zinc..........chrome late.

Oil filler tube/cap black early...........chrome late.

    Dip stick black early.......................chrome late.

FI throttle ret spring silver early.......dark grey late.

FI balance tube cad early...............chrome late.

Thanks guys. I appreciate any info. Trying to fill a gap in my records. I know the AIM has dates for many of these changes but they don't necessarily coincide with the point of time of actual change on the assy line.

Mike I can help if you can use FI serial number.

I have two unrestored units, not on cars. FI serial tags intact. I pulled both these off original cars early in their life so I don't suspect they have been altered.

Re: Mike I can help if you can use FI serial numbe

Thanks Mike. If either have the wire vacuum advance pipe clip at the rear plenum cover bolt, black painted oil filler tube or cad plated instead of chrome balance tube, it would be a unit from the serial # range that I'm interested in. It seems most of the items I mentioned in the first post changed at about the same time in production. I remember a very original unrestored #2600 tan conv that I looked at in Calif years ago that had all of the early items and so did the 32xx car so we know all these items would be correct at least to that point.

1st design vac adv tube wire support

The 1st design vac adv tube wire support was used until at least the mid 3000 ser no. range.
