Trying to remove the trans tunnel cover to access the seat switch on the drivers side of my '89. The console storage lock needs removed it seems, per the service manual, but the service manual provides no clues as to how to do this. Any one out there who has (successfully) performed this operation?

Re: Need C-4 Console Help!
Bill,
I think you can remove the console without removing the console storage lock.....at least I did it on my 89 auotmatic.....very carefully lift front of console once the dash faceplates have been removed....hope this helps....best of luck...- Top

Re: Need C-4 Console Help!
Thanks Rick, I'm actally past the console and now down into the next layer that retains the switches and also is a part of the glove box. The repair manual says the lock must be removed to take the cover for the side of the console off and that is what I'm trying to accomplish. Re: Need C-4 Console Help!
Bill, not sure I really understand what you want to do but if it is to get the console unit dismounted from the tunnel: lift the glued felt section of the glove box tray and you will find four recessed and plastic covered screw mountings. The plugs are flush fitting, oblong and about 1 1/4" long. At the bottom you find four screws which hold it down--I know! If this isn't what you need explain a little more and i will get back to you.- Top

Re: Need C-4 Console Help!
Thanks Bill, but what I really need to do is to get the drivers side Trans tunnel cover off, or at least moved out of the way enough to give access to the power seat switch. I'm looking at the large unit that runs all the way from the front of the trans tunnel back to the divider behind the seat. The hangup is that the glove box lock is attached to this cover, and the cover cannot be removed without dealing with the lock in some manner. I'm trying to access the drivers power seat switch and wiring on an '89.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Need C-4 Console Help!
Bill, my 84 has been apart for two years in my garage waiting for me to paint her--as soon as my wife lets me stop remodelling the house. I will go out and look at my lock mech and the side panel in the morning and see what trick you employ. I don't remember any difficulty but it was a while back.
The power seat swith is held with two screw which I think you can access once the side panel is of. I know, you cannot get it off! I seem to recall that everything went a lot easier for me once I removed the center console/tray unit and lifted it up. like I said, I go refresh myself in the morning and send you "something".
