    "Numbers matching"

I am looking to buy another 66-427. The one I have now does not have the original engine. The vin of the new one is 194676S107846 - build date between nov and dec 65. What date should the 942 block be stamped with to be original. How much time is acceptable before or after the vin date does NCRS accept as original?

The "Build Date" was or around Dec. 8 1965

        Re: "Numbers matching"

The club's published rules are pretty clear on these points. Absent, specific directives on specific parts ennumerated in the applicable Judging Guide or the NCRS Judging Reference Manual, the generic standard for dating on restored Corvette parts is 0-6 months prior....

Prior means prior to the creation of the master assembly. On engines (stamp pad of the assy was dated at the start of the assy's creation), the integral parts (cylinder heads, block, Etc.) came together at the engine assy plant (Flint for small blocks and Tonnawanda for big blocks). For items that came together at the final assy line (St. Louis or Bowling Green), the VIN number of the car dictates the prior-to date.

Deviations (they DID happen) from this general policy of 0-6 months prior to, place the burden of proof upon the owner to justify....

Ideal time is about 2 weeks to 4 weeks before the build date on the trim tag
