1980 Leaf Spring - Spec needed

    Hi all,

I'm wanting to get the leaf spring from my 1980 C3 re-tempered. It's the standard 9 leaf version. I'm in the UK and this seems to be the most cost effective way to restore the ride height on my car. Several companies can do the work for me, but they need a specification for the spring. Does anyone have a specification, or know where I can get one?

    Thanks
    Ant

Have you replaced the eight rubber spring cushions? Compression/hardening of these cushions is the primary cause of ride height loss/ride harshness.

      1980 Leaf Spring - Specs

      Ant,

Duke has told you the best place to start, i.e, by replacing the cushions. If that doesn't work and if you really do need to have the leaves re-arched, the information you ask about is only known to GM or perhaps to the Spring Research Institute (SRI). Your chance of getting the info from GM is zero. If indeed the detailed specs for each leaf are known to the SRI, only a spring manufacturer who has a paid membership in the SRI can get specs from their database. I don 't know if a UK spring maker would be part of the SRI or not. In the US, I would suggest you contact Eaton Detroit Spring and talk with Mike Eaton (1555 Michigan, Detroit, MI 48216; phone 1-313-963-3839 fax 1-313-963-7047).
