    C1 lower windshield channel

This question has to do with the u-shaped channel over which the stainless fits--this channel attaches to each windshield post --it's the natural steel piece that houses the bolts that attach the windshield frame to the body.
Does anyone know when GM changed the location of the two holes closest to the centerline of the body? By 62 each was moved about 3/4" outboard from the location of the earlier holes.
The implication of this is--when you buy a windshield frame that fits "56-62", it really doesn't.
I'm playing with a 58k-mile 62 fuelie, and someone installed the earlier lower channel. the location of those holes is exactly where the support rods come from the firewall up to the underside of the windshield (as part of a single piece that connects underdash birdcage pieces from each side, under the windshield frame area, to the firewall.) In order to use the earlier channel with the further-inboard holes, one has to remove those two support rods. (Guess how I know this!)
I've had 28 or so 62's over the years, and this is the first that has been "bubba-ized" in this manner.
Hope I didn't lose you--the question is--when was that lower channel changed? My first reaction is that it happened in 57 when the began the metal birdcage, but I find a lot of the earlier channels, so I think that it probably was later than that.
Thanks for wading through this with me!

Mike; I had heard it was 58, but I would not go to the bank on that. john
