62' Heater Delete

On 62's the heater was standard equipment, but you could order a car without a heater. My question is; how were the holes for the water lines plugged? The holes are above the battery and through the firewall. Or did the factory drill the holes when the heater was installed, the aim shows the heater installation; but makes no mention of the holes or how they were drilled. Does anyone know how this was done?

William - My question would be ??? Are you asking these questions to try to replicate a heater delete or do you own a car that was a heater delete and you are trying to work out a few details? Best, Dennis

In my first post I forgot to mention that I own a car that I believe is heater delete and it has the holes in the firewall. I have checked several other heater equiped cars and the holes appear to be in the same location (hard to measure) and the same size dia's. The holes don't show any signs of being drilled, ie: no chiping on either side of the firewall as you would see with a hand drilled hole done after the fact. So I guess I would ask did the general make all the cars with the holes and then plug the heater deleted ones? Or were they actually drilled at the assembly line? When the heater option 101 became standard equipment. I don't have an earlier AIM to see what the documentation for those cars is, and if they mention the drilling of the holes. Any help would be appreciated.

if the vet was heater delete, i'd expect the cardboard firewall insulation to lack the 2 holes for the heater hoses to pass thru. i'm basing this guess on a 55 vette i had the opertunity to inspect. it was heater delete and the carboard didn't have the holes punched out for the hoses.BTW, the 55 vette's carboard insulation had the mfg's logo stamped in the usual places so i'm certain it wasn't a repo insulation board as the inspection occured about 10 years ago and at that time, the repo cardboasrd did not have the mfg logo stamped on them. mike

Is there a plate over the area where your fan switch and air pull cable's would mount? I beleive that heater delete still would have the ducts mounted for the defroster. What about the delete cover on the firewall and what bolt head's do you see. john

Page 386 in Noland's book shows the installation of the unique parts for RPO 610 Heater Delete (and they should also be in the A.I.M. in the same section); I'd expect that the cover plate on the engine compartment side and the unique dash mat on the inside covered the regular production heater hose holes.

Bill, I have a 57 heater delete mid year car. Not only did the c-1's ome with the heater delete plate but on the radiator mounting fiberglass they had an odd shaped piece of fiberboard the was held with three of four screws the blocked the area where the fresh air hose attached to the heater blower unit. I beleive this is also show in the AIM for 1957.
