Good day Corvetters,
My local newspaper has a 1963 Corvette advertised with the 340HP engine option. The seller indicates the car has A/C. Could a 340HP be ordered with air? Thanks in advance.
both wayne and tracy are correct. GM solved the high rev. A/C compressor belt throwing problem in 64 by using a larger pulley on the solid lifter A/C compressors and hence offered c-60 on the 365 hp vettes as well as the hyd lifter 64's( which came with a smaller A/C pulley than their 365 bro's.). mike
No C60 option on '63 L-76, but as stated, it was available on L-76 beginning in '64. The alternator was moved to the LH side in order to mount the compressor on the right.
No C60 with L-84 because the air cleaner didn't leave enough room for the alternator on the LH side.
Notwithstanding the above, there's always a way to install an aftermarket AC system, but they are rarely as well engineered as OE systems.
dukle: back before NCRS, i put a rochester unoit on my 64 365 c-60 coupe.what a plumber's nightmare. still have the ole coupe. back to original and its still one of my favorites.used to drive it from morgantown wva to parkersburg wva on the weekends in early 70's(was moonlighting a ER to support lea and the kids and my vette habit) the ole 64 had a 306 rear in it and would run real well down us 50 to parkersburg. came upon a pack of wild dogs one nite, about 6 or 8 of the coon dog types(best i could tell they were coon dogs at @ 80 mph) when i hit about half of them. can still remember the floorboards bending up and displacing my shoes as i over-ran them.didn't hurt the front valence--they musta been miget coons. regards and merry christmas. mike
