Re: Hydraulic Lifters
That would be Federal Mogul since they bought TRW's automotive operations back in the nineties IIRC.
F-M manufactures a broad line of high quality OE replacement parts, and you can rebuilt an engine with virtually all F-M replacement parts that are OE appearance, function, and quality including camshafts, pistons, bearings, valves and valvetrain parts and just about any other engine part you would be likely to need.

My recommendation would be GM lifters which are still available under GM #5232720. These lifters GM list for $17.41/each, but you can purchase them for a lot less through competitive dealers and through Delco (through Delco dealers make sure that the number 5232720 is on the box). Still, an engine set of these lifters is going to cost you about $200. I like GM lifters the best, though.
There are a relatively small number of companies that actually manufacture lifters and about 2 or 3 years ago one of those went out of business. The AC Spark Plug Division of DELPHI is one of the companies that make them and I consider theirs to be the best. I believe that they still manufacture the lifters sold under GM #5232720. However, these days, who knows? In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Hydraulic Lifters
At one time Johnson Tappet Corp. made most of the lifters (solid and hydraulic). In the early 60's we bought them by the flat(a carton of 144)from Johnson tappet. Since McQuay-Norris, TRW, Federal-Mogoul and a few others have disappeared I wonder who is making what. We bought lifter's from Melling's also. (Harry Melling who started in Melling's oil pumps and sponsered Bill Elliot. I sold the machine years ago (in the 70's). Anyone who could fill me in on this info, I would appreciate. Thank dale- Top

Yes, Johnson is one of the few companies that made lifters and is one of the companies that I referred to in my previous post. I believe that they may have been the company that went out of business a few years ago. The loss of that company created a serious shortage in the lifter market at the time. I think that others have "taken up the slack" now, but I don't know who they are.
The AC Spark Plug Division of GM (now a division of DELPHI) is one of the few other companies tht actually made and continues to make lifters, although I think that most of their production is now involved with hydraulic roller lifters. I don't know if they are the ones that still make the flat tappet hydraulic lifters for GM, or not. The AC Plant where the lifters are made is near Grand Rapids, MI.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
