    Goodyear Eagle GT date codes etc.

    Does anyone know how to decipher the date codes on Goodyear Eagle GT's. The tires are 255/60R15's that are the same style that was correct for the 80-82 Corvette. Here's a few numbers I found on each.

    1. DOT MKUT @F20@ @128@
    @G12L@
    255912-GW-21MN

    2. DOT MKUT @F20@ @196@
    @F13R@
    252977-GW-21MN

    3. DOT MKUT @F20@ @128@
    @F14L@
    255914-GW-MN

    4. DOT MKUT @F20@ @448@
    @F16L@
    255912-GW-MN

    5. DOT MKUT @F20@ @440@
    @F16R@
    253778-GW-MN

    Thanks-a-bunch guys

    M&K,
    As of January 1971 all tires sold in the USA have the same date code. Even tires manufactured today. This is USA and Canadian law.
    Prior to the turn of the century, the code is the last three numbers XXY, where XX is the week of the year and Y is the last digit of the year. Thus your first example of 128 = 12th week of some year ending in 8 - 1978 or 1988 or 1998.
    The rest of your tires will follow the same code.
    Tires manufactured during the year 2000 and after use the code XXYY. Same as above, but the decade is now listed so there is less guessing.
    This code has been discussed here several times in the past, as recently as several weeks ago. It is also readily available on the internet using a Google search.

      Hi Terry!

      Sounds good. So now I just have to figure out what year Goodyear stopped making the Goodyear Eagle GT in order to have a better idea from whence they came. I don't remember them being made in 98 but I could be wrong. I really appreciate your reply and look forward to getting to the bottom of this mystery. One more thing, do any of the other numbers mean anything? I did figure out they were made in Union City, TN. Any help would be welcome.

        M & K,
        I believe the Eagle GT Goodyear series was discontinued in the early 80's. I have used them on my C3 cars and they perform vey well. I'm not sure what series superceeded them. Maybe someone else has some more accurate data.

          Michael,
          Yes the other numbers/letters mean something. The plant code and style of tire are in there. I don't have access to that information, but it appears you have it already. A Goodyear tire dealer might be able to give you that information as well, if they are willing to take the time.
          I have no information regarding the length of time that style tire was produced. My only suggestion might be, again, the Goodyear dealer.
