I am curious as to what shade of grey the rear spring originally was. I had read in earlier posts that the paint is available from Quanta, but also seen many posts mentioning other more readily available paints. So is it a light grey like the typical grey primer? Or is it like battleship grey, or charcoal grey, or what? My spring is a repro and it came in black. Thanks!

Re: Shade of grey for rear spring?
Yep.
It doesn't cost that much to buy the correct liners and paint in the kit from Quanta. You might as well buy the correct items and do it right. You will NOT want to re-do it after the judges tell you it's not typical of factory production.

Can email (up to) 10 pics of original '65 spring .
... which I disassembled and exposed to daylight for the first time. The grey remains only on the (approx) 1 foot center section, and you can see the color variations where diff. lube has had effect. Also shots of top of springs, showing oozing from spring above when factory assembled. Also side-by-side shots of grey spring and (darker) grey original shocks, to appreciate shade differences.
These jpegs are about 800Kb each, and can provide blow-up detail.- Top
