    C2 Soft Top Frame Restoration

I'm now in the planning phase of soft top restoration for my 66 body off project. I have a new Al Knoch soft top that I plan to have professionally installed once I reinstall the frame in the car. However, although my top frame is in reasonably good shape, I'd like to remove the soft top, clean the frame and shoot a coat of gloss black on it. How do I remove the top from the frame? How much disassembly of the frame is required to get a good restoration? Can I get away with just removing the soft top and no additional frame disassembly, beside the weatherstrip that I plan to replace? I can't find much in the Archives on this subject.

    Regards,

I'd say leave the original paint alone if it's in good shape, my 67 has all the runs drips and errors it came with from the factory. Just clean it I always feel leave original alone if at all possible and it scores better.

I don't have my judging guide with me but I think the finish is supposed to be semiflat, not gloss.

Don't you mean semi-gloss black? *NM*

          Sorry--semi gloss black.
