    C2, L76 Coolant Flow Rate

What is the approximate flow rate of coolant thru the water pump at idle? (Im guessing around 4 gal/minute.) Thanks in advance. Les

Dunno about idle, but it's 57 gallons per hour at 4400 rpm.

A flow rate is listed in the AMA specs. All are the same - about 4 gal/min at 2000 IIRC.

        57 gal/hr sounds low... thats less than a gal/min

Oops! Meant 57 gallons per MINUTE, not per hour

              Correction

The oil flow rate is 4.3 GPM @ 2000.

Coolant flow rate is listed as 55 GPM @ 4400. It's not clear if this is crankshaft or engine RPM. The water pump/crankshaft speed ratio is 0.94:1.

                Re: Correction

So if the flow rate is 55GPM @ 4400 RPM, then at an idle of 750RPM it would be approximately (750/4400)X 55 = 9+ GPM. Is this correct?

                  Re: Correction

I'm not sure! A positive displacement pump like the oil pump will have flow delivery approximately linear with speed in the normal operating range, but I'm not sure if centrifugal pumps' delivery is linear.

Any centrifugal pump experts out there? This is one engineering question I can't answer off the top of my head.
