    Radiator Core Support

I am working on my 64's radiator area and found more rust than I was expecting on the rad core support. I can probably have it patched, but will likely cost as much as the repros from DeWitts. Has anyone had any experience with the quality, fit, correctness of the repro core support? I know DeWitts is the best for aluminum radiators and correct overflow tanks, so I would expect the core support to be same quality...Has anyone out there used them?

    Andy,

You might want to try what I did. I bought the lower channel from Dr. Rebuild for around $100. Cut the old rusty piece off and welded on the new part. Did it for less than half the cost of a complete Support.

You might also try Coffman Corvette. Do a search for the name and you should get to their web site. I haven't tried them yet but I hear that they are top notch with their repro supports.

Did the same thing as Richard did on my 66. Ground the spot welds, removed old lower support channel and welded on a new bottom channel --couple of years ago-- cost than $80. Support fits very well in the car.

Thanks for the input. I did consider the repair piece, but I would still need to do rust repair. There is heavy pitting on about the lower third of the core support...that is why I'm considering the reproduction core support. I did check out the Coffman's Corvette site...they probably make them for all the vendors. Does anyone have experience with those?
