C1 - Engine Shades of Orange

I know this question has been asked before but I'm gonna ask it again....
What is the current thinking on what to use as a "Chevrolet Orange" paint on a '59 engine? About all I can find around here is Dupli-color Chevrolet Orange #1620. Is this correct for judging or not? If not...who are the manufacturers of the right stuff?

      FWIW, I used POR-15

on mine, but as you can see I was after a different color. Excellent paint, however, I applied it with small brushes, but no brush mark remains.

I'm under the impression that for a '59, this shade of Chevrolet orange has far too much red in it. What is the truth?

            C1 engine orange

Hope you get an answer soon Brad, I have to paint my '59 block in a couple weeks. I have always used Plasti-Kote in the past with no problems. Picked up a can of Seymor which is supposed to be good quality. Haven't seen VHT around here in a long time. I want to do it right the first time, don't expect to ever pull this engine again in my lifetime. Pat

I'm not really qualified to judge the various shades offered for Chevy Orange, as you can see my engine paint is WAY too red for you. Of course, as the controversy over Chevy Blue was resolved, it probably varied, since it was engine paint, not requiring touch-up, and Chevrolet probably bought it from three different suppliers, so as not to be dependent on one source.

I will say it went on very easily, covered in one (brushed) coat, has held up so far very well, shows no brush marks (although if your engine is out of the car you will probably want to spray it) and I only used about half of the pint can.

Dave, I bought some POR-15 for inside my rad saddle, the word is they make a great product. I also looked at the chevy orange. They had a cylinder head on display painted in the orange...it shone better than my car after a wax job. It didn't say on the sample that it had been clear-coated, but it was very glossy. Pat G

Re: C1 - Engine Shades of Orange

Pursuant to the recommendations of others in a similar thread, I ended up using the Chevy Orange from Quanta Products on my '59 engine about a month ago. I am no expert, but I was happy with the outcome. It was a dead on match to the last paint job done on the engine. See link below. Regards, - Kevin
