when you have a car that is in sotrage for long peroids of time does it hurt to just crank it up an let it run for 10-15 min. are does that do more harm than good. any thoughts?

Sisnce over the life of the average car engine about 80 percent of wear occurs during warm up, you are better off letting it sleep unless you want to drive it.
Also, prior to storage the oil and filter should be changed. The antifreeze should be changed if it will reach it's two year expiration prior to the end of storage.
For indefinite storage I would recommend draining, flushing, and drying the cooling system.
