I need to replace the oil reflux valve that the oil filter screws onto in my 68 427/390hp. I noticed that the little fiber disk washer is nearly gone. Any suggestion on replacing the unit. Should I go to GM to get the part and pay a fortune or are there exact replacements out there somewhere. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Terry

The oil filter adapter used for all 1968-1991 Corvette engines used to be a very inexpensive piece. However, since its PRODUCTION use has just about ceased, it's gone up in price. Currently, the adapter, available under GM #3952301, GM lists for $34.67. However, you shouldn't have too much trouble buying it for about $25. This piece may be available in the aftermarket, but I'd expect that you wouldn't get one for a whole lot less than this.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

No, it wasn't. This is a spin-on type adapter as used for most 1968 and later. All 1967 and earlier (except Chevy II) used a cannister type oil filter with a completely different "adapter". The 68 and later style adaper will not work on a 1967 or older block and the 67 and earlier "adapter" will not work on a 1968 or later block.
There was a special adapter used in PRODUCTION for those 1968 and later applications which used a cannister style filter (some truck, taxi, and police car during the 68-75 period) in conjunction with a 1968 and later style block. GM/Delco once had available in SERVICE an adapter which would convert a 67 and earlier block to spin-on filter. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
