here is a question that I cannot seam to find a consensus on...What is the largest size tire that can fit on the rear of a stock '82 with factory alloy wheels? I have BFG T/A's size P255-60-R15 all around right now. I would like to put a slightly wider/taller tire on the back.

I think you'll find that the 255-60-R15 is the largest tire that you're going to be able to get on the car without undesirable modifications, wheel adapters, or going to different wheels. Even then, you wouldn't be able to get a much larger tire to fit the car. The 255-60-R15 is a quite large tire; I don't really see why you'd need anything larger than that for street operation.
One problem that you will have with this size is finding a true high performance tire still available. An ultra high performance tire (i.e. "Y", "W" or "Z"-rated) is completely out of the question. Such tires in this size haven't been manufactured in years. You might still be able to find a "H" rated tire in this size, though. You'll probably have to look around a while to find one, though, and don't set your sights on any particular manufacturer. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1982 tire size
The only currently available tire in this size I am aware of that has better than a "S" speed rating and a compound a bit softer than concrete is the Pirelli Scorpion "light truck sport tire". The original Scorpion was OE on the Lamborghini LM002. I think the current Scorpion is a little different than the original, but it still carries a "V" speed rating and a 340 A A UTQG, which puts it in the same ballpark as the currently available 225/70R-15 "police pursuit tires".
Several Shark owners have asked about installing this tire on their cars, but I don't know if anyone has tried them.
They are relatively inexpensive for a V-rated tire!
