C3 Rear crossmember bushing

In the process of changing rear crossmember bushing. The new bushing is loose in the crossmember,about .050 smaller then old bushing, Does this sound right or do I have another poor aftermarket part. Only possible thought I had is outer shell of bushing will expand when torqued to frame.

It depends which bushing that you're talking about. If you're talking about the large end bushings which fit into the "sombrero" brackets on the frame, then they should be an interference fit in the crossmember and should require some pressure to install. After installation, the steel tabs surrounding each bushing are bent over to complete the fastening of the bushing to the crossmember.

If, by some chance, you're talking about the center bushing which connects the differential forward mount to the crossmember, that assembly may be a bit loose until the bushings are fully compressed by torquing the center bolt to the specified torque.

It is the sombrero bushings. The one I have are way to small about .030 clearance. I have someone looking into the problem, some of this aftermarket stuff is junk.
