    C2 Big Block Dipstick Questions

Is the black seal inside the bell of the dipstick supposed to be flexible or has the one on my car simply gotten hard with age?

Can the seal be replaced with one from another dipstick or was it swaged together with dipstick assembly?

Joe -- I had a similar post a while ago, but nobody seems to have ever R & R'ed a dipstick seal (skirt). Must be doable, or they wouldn't sell the button & seal kits. Seals definitely do harden with age; the one on my '65 SB is so hard that I'd be afraid to snap a chunk off if I tried to bend it.

Repair kit is available for the C2 dipstick for both rubber seal and button. I believe Long Island Corvette Supply offers this.

What kind of glue would you use to glue the seal to the dipstick ?? Mine always tries to stay on the dipstick tube when I remove the dipstick.

          Joe-----

On a big block dipstick I don't see how the seal could be replaced IN ANY DURABLE SORT OF MANNER notwithstanding the fact that kits may be available. For SOME of the small block dipstick configurations, it might be possible to replace the seal.

My advice would be to save the original dipstick for judging purposes and use a reproduction or replacement dipstick for functional purposes. They're pretty easy to swap out.
