    Flywheel Life

The flywheel off of my 63 [GM3791021] seems original. A previous post stated that GM flywheels have a beveled edge that indicates wear. This flywheel is laser straight across it's entire face. Replace? What will be a good match for a new LUK clutch? Thanks Again.

if you've had it surfaced and no significant cracks in face, it'll work . mike

      Dead flywheels

They have two ways to buy the farm: cracking and excessive surfacing.

If a flywheel has been surfaced so much that the beveled edge is gone, the pressure plate bolt holes will be too shallow. The shoulders on those special bolts will then bottom causing clutch chatter or slip (or both).

Radial heat cracks on a flywheel are scary if you're going to be banging shifts. Me, I'm down to my last pair of feet. I don't bang shifts OR use cracked flywheels anymore.
