    John Danos - Corvettes Unlimited

ProTeam recently listed a midyear ad and mentioned the unit being a former "John Danos car" (Hookset, New Hampshire dealer trading under the name "John Danos Enterprises, Inc - "Corvettes Unlimited" in the 80's). Apparently Mr. Danos was a "high end" midyear Corvette dealer that closed up shop in the early 90's. Curious if others have heard of, dealt with, or own a former Danos sold car or seen his shop when it existed. What was the general reputation/history of the shop ? I'm curious as I have not seen Proteam refer to other dealers in their ads (maybe a restoration shop but not a retail dealer).

I went there once during their time. This was before mid-year big blocks really took off, but he seemed to have more 67 big block cars than anyone I had heard of and they seemed to be priced about a third above the market at the time. Most of his cars appeared very nice, but his prices did not seem at all realistic, at least to this poor old Maine boy.

I did business with John Danos several times back in the 70's and 80's with success. He paid good money and sold good cars at market prices (high end market prices). He was known to keep his word and represent cars honestly. As far as I am concerned he was a credit to the used car market.

-------I knew John pretty well and felt he was a pretty good guy. He was never bashful about his pricing. The auctioneers used to Call him Sonny as he had an uncanny resemblence to Sonny Bono. I stopped in his shop one day on the way to pick up a 442 in that area and Reggie Jackson was there. That was the day I developed a very high degree of dislike for Mr.Jackson. Not a people person in my estimation. Even with Jacksons rudeness John still made time for my friend and I that day...........Bill S

            Peter,
I went to his shop once back in the late eighties when I lived in the new england area. I seem to remember that all of his cars were top notch and on the high-end side. If I am not mistaken, I believe that he may be in Florida now. I know that I saw his name(business) on a car for sale in the Chevy/Corvette trader over the last few months. I don't remember where exactly in FL it was, but probably South for sure. Hope this helps in some way.
