    JUST LUCKY C1 OWNER

I was just reading thru the discussion board and noticed some very interesting discussions on radiator water and brake fluids. I'm sure glad I didn't know all this stuff when I first bought my car in '62 or I would have worried myself sick for 42 years. I first changed my brake fluid in the early '90s when I had to replace a bad wheel cylinder (did all 4); I put whatever was on the shelf at the parts store back in. SO FAR, no problem....all original brake lines of course. My aluminum radiator has never leaked and has received whatever water came from the tap from the various parts of the country I've been living in. Of course, I always had some brand of anti-freeze in it and I did FLUSH out the system once during the 42 years of service. I religiously change the antifreeze between 5 and 10 years. The hoses were installed in 1982 and still appear fine. Of course I probably only drive the car 500-1000 miles a year now, but it does have over 100,000 miles on it currently.Oh, my harmonic balancer (FI car) is not in line with my generator or water pump and I crank it past 6500 EVERY time I have ever taken it out of the garage. Hopefully, you all will pray for me that my luck (and my car)remain intact. Happy Holidays guys (&gals)......Don't worry........BE HAPPY

You did not mention reading about the piston rods and what the age affect could have on them. 6,500 RPM's is really moving some metal.

I agree John. I still don't understand what all the fuss is about on this silicone fluid thing. I put four new SS sleeved calipers on my 66 just about exactly 21 years ago and filled the system with plain old brake fluid. I've driven that car all over this country and have absolutely zero problems with brakes. Maybe I did something wrong because everyone keeps telling me how much trouble I'm going to have if I don't use silicone fluid.

Good point Jim. Every moving part inside the engine was replaced new in 1982.I even had two extra 097 cams in my parts bin. The machine shop used TRW steel pistons. Same ole flywheel tho (new ring gear).....and with the alumuminum bellhousing THAT has kept me worrying for 42 years. If I can muster the physical energy this Spring, I will pull it for one last time and send it out for some D&C (dust and clean).
